Good day all. I am in need of a new choke cable for my atomic 4 on a 74 E 29. Has anyone replaced theirs? If so where did you get it. Moyer marine is slightly behind these days due to foot surgery so I am having trouble getting an answer from them. Any and all imput is appreciated. Have a good day.

Hopefully the answer is somewhere in Moyer's forums, but I believe we replaced ours on our old boat with a diesel fuel-cutoff cable.

There's nothing special about this cable. You literally could figure out the length and go to the NAPA and buy one, but I'd opt for something a little more marine grade

Morse/Teleflex is commonly available about everywhere, and I've often ordered cables via the marina I haul at since they have a nice catalog to paw through :egrin:

Here's link to a candidate from Hamilton Marine:

Now, if you're in sticker shock, we can go back to option one above with something like this for 7 bucks and keep it sprayed down with a rust inhibitor:

I just bought one from Moyer Marine and replaced it. No tricks at all--the only decision is whether to buy a 7 footer ($38) or the 20 footer ($79). I bought one from Napa (a 6 footer was as long as they had in stock) and it was puny compared to the one I removed--so I bought the 7 footer from Moyer. It is much heavier duty than a auto one. I figure it will last another 30 years so it was worth the extra cost.

If the outer jacket is still good it is possible to replace just the inner core. This used to be a common fix with the old mechanical speedometers.

I did this at least 10 years ago on my A4 and it still works fine. The replacement was a length solid bronze wire, I think 1/8" dia but not sure. Maybe use a drill bit to determine the dia.

Try local machine shops, scrap metal yards, dealers in odd lengths of new metal. Also McMaster-Car and Onlinemetals, they both have online catalogs.

Good luck with your fix.

Fancy seeing a IAP link here. You an Alfista too? now back to the question, I have a Cable that is rusted shut and therefore the PO disconnected it from the engine rather than fix it. As a true Alfista I hate half jobs so I'm about to fix that - how is it connected to the engine side?

guilty as charged! Been driving them daily for nearly 30 years. Currently '83 GTV6 and '67 GTV. Wife says the '67 is hers....

Holy moly - I be "wopjob" in the AlfaBB.

Haven't made a post recently, but also Emerald on the AlfaBB. Last May, did some stuff on a frame welding project

Now, not to get too far off topic. my prior E-27 had the A4 replaced with an outboard, and I put an A4 back in, and part of this was having fun doing a home grown heat exchanger setup. The expansion tank should look very familiar and I used a simple choke cable that never gave me any issues :egrin:
