Hello everyone. I am replacing my original pedestal. The one that cam with the boat is the same size one but has a cable with a small piston like piece that moves in and out when you spin the wheel sprocket. My current rotted out pedestal only has a cable and chain setup. Can I just center up the rudder and even out the piston setup and connect the end to the quadrant underneath? Thanks.

No.

Post a picture of your rotted Merriman pedestal. Chances are it can be fixed and the current chain and cables drive saved.

Christian is right. You will need to change over the replacement pedestal to the same system as the old one. Time consuming, but not too difficult. Suggest taking pictures before the journey.
