1983 Ericson 28+ "Ruckus"

Hello all,

It is a bittersweet moment, I will be parting with Ruckus as she is going up for sale. I am looking to move up into a larger boat.

Most of my photo files were to large for this site but I have included links to ads that have more photos (of interior and on deck) and can provide more upon request, in the meantime, enjoy some photos of Ruckus under sail on our adventures together!

I found this was the perfect starter boat to cruise and explore the Gulf Islands, Sunshine Coast and Broughton's on weekends or for weeks at a time.
She is in condition to immediately sail and cruise.

She loves to be under sail, often outpacing boats larger than her. She's very light, maneuverable and manageable for a solo sailor or couple with all lines led aft to the cockpit and a new Tiller Clutch installed, allowing periods of hand free steering. She has a new genoa with only one season of use on it. Ericson's are strong, well-designed boats with excellent reputations.
Her engine is incredibly economical and efficient, sipping fuel.

Previous owners have brought her as far as the remote and stunning Princess Louisa Inlet, and over several summers I have brought her through the Gulf islands and up part of the Sunshine Coast as well as serving as a functional liveaboard.
Her cockpit is quite large, allowing day sailing with 4 or more people, her interior is airy and open with warm wood and light coloured cushions.
She has 4 fixed portlights, 2 opening portlights with built in mesh screens and a massive forward hatch, which allows you to stargaze while lying in bed, and funnels airflow through the boat on hot days at anchor.
The companion way hatch is custom plexi, which adds natural light, opening the space. There is also a double quarter berth, which serves well both as a guest bed, or a storage "garage".

Since owning the boat from Fall 2018, numerous upgrades have been made including: new foresail, new anchor and chain, new hot water heater, entirely new plumbing, new wiring, new solar controller and inverter, new batteries and more. She has been used and loved, but after learning and adventuring extensively on her for the last few years, I will be upgrading to a larger boat.

Boat last hauled out in 2020, where I spent several days sanding down years of built up antifouling, and reapplying much smoother coats, and installed zincs, replaced through-hulls and polished the hull. Hull inspected by diver this August and cleaned in the water, boat will require new zincs as they were knocked off in cleaning process.

The boat is ready to be used and enjoyed immediately for the last part of the cruising season, and off-season sailing. You can call, text, or email me to set up a viewing at 250-882-2595 or mel.dixon77@gmail.com
