    Mast Gate and Batten Cars

Got my new Mack sails in. I was surprised to find that they use batten cars... nice feature that I had overlooked. However, the batten car can not drop below the mast gate for reefing, esentially it creats a sail stop above the gate. While its still possible to reef, it leaves a bulk of sail...

    The Golden Gate video

I know many of you are having a tough go of it with this year's weather and I feel for you  For a time I bounced between the East Coast and Europe many years ago. For those hunkered down and not able to sail .. here's a couple videos of some days we've been able to get in between...

One of ours outside Angels Gate on Sunday ?

While we were cleaning up Senta on Sunday we heard an Ericson 29 call for help. Something about a wrapped prop and a broken compass and GPS that was lost. The location was just outside Angels Gate and we never heard how it was resolved. I hope it all ended well ! -Sven

    Going out the Golden Gate

Greetings all. I've been sailing over a little over a year now pretty extensively in the SF Bay Area. I've been putting off going out the Golden Gate into the Pacific until I could gain more experience and now at a point where I think I'm ready. However, I'm wondering whether my E27 would be...

Frozen gate valve- best way to seal??

My through hulls are fine- 2 out of 3 older gate valves (none of which I ever use) are fully closed- But apparently the 1 1/4" head intake gate valve (I've pulled the head out) has a slow leak- I have tightened her all the way she is going to go- The question I guess is, what's the...

    seacocks vs gate valves anyone...???

ok, my new boat seems to have ancient, and frozen, gate valves at the through-hulls- so, a) how do i recognize a dangerous situation before it happens... and b) this fall when i haul out and begin a winter re-fit, what type/make valve, or seacock, do i want to replace them all with...

360 degree rolls under Golden Gate Bridge

This is why sailing on San Francisco Bay is soooo much fun. I just had to share this one as it is incredibly hairy! He does have his PFD on which is good......But still...WHOA! http://www.sfsurvey.com/photos/sailH/index.htm Put it on slide show to get full effect! John M.

    Kenyon Mast Gate

I am continually fearful of one day droping the gate overboard. I would not expect it to float! Are replacements available? Is a different design available which attaches outside the track and would allow the sail lugs to settle further down the track and contibute to better flaking?
