fireproof

My E29 has a ~1 inch thick panel of what I assume to be fireproof insulation attached to the inside of the engine compartment cover. Its breaking down and I'd like to replace it. I've read about Soundown on this site but it looks like its is hard to work with. Any suggestions ??? --Paul...
