I bought an Ericson 27 a few months back with the same diesel inboard. It runs great, burns very little fuel and has a good amount of torque.
Having said that, I do find that the speed leaves something to be desired. I am moored on a river and whenever I go against the tide I find it to be very...
I did try leaving the engine cover off once...
And as my friend climbed the ladder - BAM - down it came crashing...
Not good for the motor I am sure but it only seemed to dent the oil cap.
One more bit of funny info...
3rd trip out I ran aground... The Petaluma river is very unforgiving when the wind kicks in from the rear...
Luckily it was in soft mud and a passing ski boat pulled us out in a jiffy.
Lesson learned...
The latches are moved down from their original holes on the engine cover. It looks like the PO was trying to shorten the distance the stairs extended into the cabin. I think I am going to use your advice on the rubber spacers. That should work fine. There isn't any thing on the floor that they...
Hey All,
On my first journey out with my E27 I found that when I step on the stairs the pressure causes the engine cover to come in contact with the motor. I believe it is slightly rubbing on the belt and makes a vibrating sound. Obviously I don't want this to happen and don't really want to be...
Good advice all. I am stoked to sail with any aged sailor. Especially since with age comes experience! :)
I hope to just kindle the spark in others of all ages...
I am new to sailing and have recently started posting here. I bought an Ericson 27 that is in need of some TLC and am having the best time getting into the whole sailing scene.
One thing I find disturbing is the lack of younger people (I am 31) who are interested in sailing. Most of my friends...
Thanks everyone! I am really soaking all the info in... Went out today and did some cleaning. It's tough going but I think it will be great once its done. I will be sure to post pictures of the haul out and progress.
Tomorrow is the trial cruise... Wish me luck!
Turns out I do have a holding tank in the head. I had my friend who is a very experienced sailor come aboard and check out some of it today. He thinks it's a fine vessel and told me (as others have) to relax and enjoy the boat. I think we are going to take it out for a bit this weekend and then...
I am a little worried now about the through hulls...
I went today and closed the newer sea cocks in the head. No problem there... Though I did notice the toilet had a little more water than 2 days ago. Flushed and hopefully it will stay that way.
The spigot valve under the sink I found. However...
Thanks for the Pics! I found the old style one under the sink... Elsewhere (head etc.) all of them were replaced with the newer kind. I need to make sure they are all closed shut! Of course it has been sitting as is for a long spell... So probably all right.
I think I will actually do the haul...
