    Replacing gasket on Lewmar Hatch

I used gasoline and mineral spirits to soften it up and clean it up. It seemed to make the job a little easier. Although I think mine were the original Lewmar sealant, not sure if that was silicone based.

    Trickle charger question...

I would take a look at that jumper between the two negatives. I don't like the way it is touching the positive. A little bit of chaffing in the insulation and you could have a serious problem. Otherwise, without a separate starting battery, the setup looks good to me. I assume the hold down...

    Smelly holding tank - again

Thanks for all the input. I took another look at the connections and the one going to the top of the tank is single clamped and seems to have some crud caked around the connection. It must have leaked at some point. I think I'll take it all apart again, clean out that compartment good and...

    Smelly holding tank - again

I can't seem to completely rid the stink from the holding tank. On the 32-3, the tank is under the v-berth. Every time I go back to the boat and open it up I get that unmistakable smell. Four years ago I removed the tank, I rebuilt the toilet, replaced all of the hoses, washed out the tank. I...

Ericson 30+ and Universal M18 - Over heating

I have motored with an empty water tank without having a problem - I have an m25xp with a 3 inch heat exchanger. Was it overheating in the water or in the yard during winterization? Regardless, was water coming out the exhaust?

Lost Ericson 32-2 front hatch in a Tornado

You might want to try hatch masters in Connecticut, maybe they can repair it.

    Hatch Master

Oh, yeah - it was the sticker shock. I think it cast me a little over $300 to do the two and they turned out great. That reminds me, I should take the hatch covers off once in a while to admire them.

    Hatch Master

I don't know, I did mine myself, by the time your done with cleaning, prepping, new gaskets, special glue for the gaskets, hardware and the expensive dow sealant, along with the fact the replacement acrylic is not exactly the same thickness (I think Lewmar is metric). I wonder if I should have...

    Engine/Prop Shaft Alignment

I don't think the engine could be misaligned so much as to cause the boat to pull to one side. Vibration, yes. Could it be prop walk, a bent prop or prop strut?

    Main Sail Halyard Retrieval

Got mine done. Dropped some mason string with some small nuts as weights. We were able to snag it with a coat hanger on the deck. I then used the mason string to pull a stronger messenger line and then the messenger line to pull the halyard. The only thing I would do different next time is to...

    Main Sail Halyard Retrieval

Ed, If it makes you feel any better, I did the same thing last fall with my Jib halyard. I replace my halyards with messenger lines also. I pulled the Jib up into the mast it then came out and flopped on the deck. I wasn't comfortable going up the mast with the boat on stands- I got about...

    Engine/Prop Shaft Alignment

I just did mine for the first time last weekend after changing the mounts. It wasn't that bad. Leave one bolt in the coupler loosely, then adjust the clearance side to side by moving the engine to make the gap equal on both sides. Once that's dialed in tighten the mounts to the stringers. Then...

    oil pressure switch question

Mine has the buzzer light on the panel, I replaced it last year. I had a little trouble getting it to work after replacement, make sure you have a good ground. It's most likely a bad connection behind the panel. On my M25 it is unrelated to the heat exchanger.
