    Super-sagging side stays in E-27.......Why?

The side stays in my 1977 E-27 have gotten noticeably looser over the winter, and I'm concerned about material failure "somewhere". The boat was over-wintered in Connecticut in the water, uncovered. There is rot in the bottom of the plywood bulkhead panel between the head and the salon, but the...

    E27--adding ballast?

Thanks for the responses!! The PO of my Ericson 27 added 300 (400?) lbs. of lead shot to the inside of the keel to improve stability. I'm not really a "racer", and my objection is partly the slight list to port at anchor, and also that it's not "right" (as in original design). But drilling...

    E27--adding ballast?

Seth: I don't disagree, but WHY does more weight slow you down?? I know racers want a lighter boat, but with more weight, the actual waterline is longer, and thus, to my understanding, the theoretical top speed is faster. Tanksalot Stan F.

Drop-in solid state cooler for ice chest?

You might look into the Coleman Stirling cooler. I bought one and hooked up an ammeter. 3.3 amps at initial startup and low 2's during running. It's pricey (I paid $369 at Newegg.com) but so far (2 wks) looks like a good bet. It's not made to be "built in", and is 28 inches long, but for...

    Marina cut the radar cable!

In checking out my E-27 after the marina took down the mast and put the boat up for winter storage, I noticed that the large, multi-stranded wire for the Furuno radar was cut. Last year a different marina had called me prior to lowering the mast, and I had to come down and unstring the radar...

    E27 shaft removal

Nicko: How do you know the cutlass bearing has to be replaced, and, (to show my ignorance), where is the cutlass bearing? The reason I'm asking is I'm pulling my Atomic 4 & replacing it with a F/W cooled one, and I'd prefer to do this kind of work, if necessary, with the engine...

    Portlight frozen screws

Apparently all Ericson aluminum portlight frames are held in with stainless screws. (I had thought the previous owner did that). That causes a severe galvanic corrosion problem; I had a Kenmore washer that died because of it - stainless drum and aluminum drive system. Has anyone replaced...

    Opening Portlight Removal and Replacement

E-27 Portlights I have leaks in the 2 port-side lights of my E-27. It seems the leak is not between the hull and the frame of the light, but between the glass and the old sealant. I've removed the SS screws on one of the lights (NOT Easy) and have the aluminum off on the interior. Has anyone...
