    E 30+ info on mast / Tabernacle ?

Mission Bay All of the larger sail boats at the Mission Bay Yacht Club in San Diego are set up the way Mark describes. Are you looking to sail out of Mission Bay? Most have either an electric winch or a 4:1 or 6:1 purchase on the rigging attached from the boom to either the winch or to a...

    Ericson 28 factory Wiring schematic

My E28 stereo installation I don't know if this was installed by a previous owner, but I like the set up. It sounds nice. Mine is a 1986 E28.

    Rigid Vang or not

I'm curious what the Garhaur can do that a Boomkicker with a standard 4:1 vang can't do. I had the Boomkicker in my last boat and I loved it.

    Where is the bilge pump?

Newbie When I bought my first non trailer sailboat, I was a little overwhelmed. I hired an captain for a day. He showed my wife and me around the boat. We went out and he got us comfortable with getting on and off the mooring, docking, and others basic. The next time we went out, it was a lot...

    Thru Hulls and Bilge Questions

14" anti-siphon Originally I thought that someone must have rigged up this fitting for the 1/4" siphon, but it looks like this is the way Ericson designed it. They used this funky thing to attach a 1/4" hose to a 1/2 inch thru hull. I almost tossed it in the trash. Good thing I saved it...

    Thru Hulls and Bilge Questions

Joe, thanks for your reply. I have a rule bilge pump aft of that box in the bilge. I will have to look inside again, but the original pump might be gone. I must have 3 hoses in the bilge then. One original, one new, and one for the manual pump. I can only guess that the hose that doesn't exit...

    Thru Hulls and Bilge Questions

Thanks Loren. I can't find any thru hulls for the 1/4" hose. I have 2-3/4" bronze thru hulls that I can use for the bilge and possibly a second bilge pump. What did you use for the siphon?

    Thru Hulls and Bilge Questions

My E28 is still kind of new to me, so I still have a lot to learn about it. A 1/2" plastic above the waterline on the starboard side thru-hull cracked off. I don't know that putting it back together the way I found it is the right way. The other plastic thru-hull is a 3/4". The 1/2"...

About to hole saw, any tricks ?

Gel Coat Chipping the gel coat is always concern. You might try going through the gel coat in reverse. After making the hole bevel the gel coat to keep it from crazing. I'm no pro for sure, but I did that at the direction of others.

to remove or not to remove, that is the question...

Heat Gun I use a heat gun to strip, lightly sand, the varnish on the boat. I don't think that I could have made them look any better if I removed them first. Removing the vanish takes about an hour for each. I use a dull putty knife and a good heat gun. Light sanding takes 15 minutes and each...

Wing v. Fin on the Ericson 28

My '28 has the bulb modification. A previous owner had it done. I don't have much to compare it to, but my boat sails great. I have the original paperwork for the modification if anyone is really interested I can dig it up and post it. I didn't realize that it was at all common.

    Vang rubs against Mainsheet

Ah, that makes sense. I don't remember what is just beyond where the vang attaches to the boom, but I imagine I could move the block there. I like this set up. Your rigging seems to distribute the load evenly to a number of places on the boom. I will look at this the next time I get out...

    Vang rubs against Mainsheet

Vang Rubs Photo The main-sheet on my 1986 E28 was too big. I changed it out with a smaller line that doesn't produce as much friction in the blocks. It still rubs the vang. Does anyone know if this is rigged correctly? The white line is the main-sheet. The sheet is on the port side of the...
