Lee Helm on my Olson 34

Lee Helm The 1987 E-34 calls for 6" of rake at the mast head based on the owners Manual. Do you have sag in your headstay? How is the shape of your main? I would pursue tuning the rig before making adjustments to the rudder. I have heard of some people putting a silver dollar under the...

Vancouver liveaboard needed for two weeks in February

Hi everyone, I have just been offered a short term contract for the month of February from the 10th to the 28th and need somewhere to stay. My wife, 1 year old son, and 2 little dogs live on our boat year round in Toronto and I would prefer to rent a boat for the month than a hotel, or...

Questions on Ericson 34---1989 Bruce King Design

E34-200 Tim I would have to say you do great work, the pictures probably don't do your workmanship justice. We have been living aboard for 18 months and the cabin sole drives me nuts. It has a few dark spots and some dents but it's the color that drives me crazy. The stripes have yellowed...

Questions on Ericson 34---1989 Bruce King Design

We are also the proud owners of a 1987 E-34 200 and we love the boat. We find the tri cabin model with aft head makes a great live aboard for our small family. We have been living on the boat for 18 months and havn't looked back, on ocasion the limited storage does get to me but that is no...

Too much boat I have a completly restored 87 34 that I would be lnterested in trading if you stll have reservations about the 38. They have the same floor plan but are a little more managable. We have outgrown the 34 as we hyave just had a baby. When I say restored I mean everything from...

    1987 E-34 for sale

Sassy ii I did not re-bed the keel when the botom was peeled as the keel joint showed no signs of failure. It was peeled as preventative maintenance as I have seen a number of the E 34 with small blister problems. We had two blisters in the boot stripe at the bow in the same place on both sides.

    1987 E-34 for sale

My wife and I have decided to sell our 1987 E-34 SASSY II and purchase an 86-88 E-38. We bought the boat prior to the arival of our son and now that we have begun cruising we have found that we need a little bit more room. SASSY II is curently located in Toronto Canada. She has had a...

    Taking on water

We were sailing our '87 E-34 from Atlantic City to Sandy Hook, New Jersey yesterday when an alarming situation arose, the cabin sole on the starboard side of the boat had 2 to 3 inches of water across it and both bilge pumps were running. I inspected all the through hulls from bow to stern to...

    Fuel Consumption for E-38 W/5432?

Fuel consumption I was turning 2200 rpm's steaming accross the Guld of Mexico from 175 mile out into a headwind, and 6' swells with the main double reefed and the Geny out just far enough to point and we were making 7.2 knots on the datamarine. Speed over ground however was still ony 3.2 knots...

    E 34 Mexico Regatta

Hi Everyone, Well we didn't make it to Mexico, but the time we spent offshore was an invaluable experience that none of us will soon forget. We managed to get 175 miles off shore and 50 mile north of Cuba before turning back. Having never sailed together before was a non-issue for the...

    Reefing order

Reefing If it starts to blow or gust over 20 to 22 knots I will put in the first reef on the main sail. If it begins to blow above 25 I will put in the second reef on the main. I do this because reefing a roller furling is much easyer than reefing the main especialy when the wind picks up...

    Help on Furlex?

Furlex I have just installed a new Furlex 2000 for the Mexico Regatta and based on the instruction you should be able to reef the sail under reasonable load. If you furl the sail while down wind you will not be able to tention the sail correctly resulting in poor sail shape. I will scan the...
