    lost Sailor

We were out at 2 Harbors that weekend. We decided to divert to MDR instead of going home to Channel Islands because the conditions were getting VERY hairy, especially up the coast. We left about 24 hours prior to the missing guy. We had good sized swell(8+) on the beam, but made it fine. It...

PossibleProblems to look for in E 31 Independence

Definitely helps, thanks! I had the headliner in the cabin area unzipped last week to bolt in part of my slab reefing system, and everything on that side was dry, so it has to be on the head side of the buklhead.

PossibleProblems to look for in E 31 Independence

Glyn, What would be your best guess as to the source of water intrusion behind the mirror in the head during a rainstorm? I don't know if the mast step can leak, or maybe the stainless eye that comes out of the deck and attaches the turning block for the main halyard... I'm not too worried...

    Wet Cabin Sole

Hey guys, thought I would bump this thread because I found (and fixed) the cause of the wet sole! Maybe if anyone else gets the same problem, this will help out. Turns out the sole actually was drying out fine, but when I used the boat, it would get wet again. After doing some process of...

    To cutter-rig or not

I would have to say I love my cutter rig, and really don't have any trouble tacking it, except when running downwind. In that instance, there usually isn't enough "pop" to get the headsail through the slot, and I do end up going forward to help it out occasionally. On any other point of sail...

    Furler Problem

Ha, upgrade. Yeah, I did think about that. Turns out I have a friend with several pairs of snapring pliers, so I'll try to fix it, and if it doesn't hold, I'll have to go with the new furler route.

    Furler Problem

Cool, I see what you are saying. The tricky part is that there is very little room to insert the snapring when the 2 halves of the drum are in place. Do some of those pliers have flat ends to slip into a very tight spot?

It looks like this circled one in red:

    Furler Problem

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with the staysail furler on my E-31 cutter. It is an older Schaeffer unit. While I was anchoring, the anchor rode got on top of the furling drum and put some pressure on it. When I released the pressure, the furling drum came apart into its 2 pieces. Nothing is...

    Sailing Dogs

Here are 2 of ours out for a sail (Summer and Lulu). We have a third also, who didn't make it in the pictures. We don't take them too often, 3 dogs on a boat can be a handful. The day after these pics were taken, we had the dogs on the dock while we did a few projects. Summer (the boxer) fell...

TFAG? Not familiar with this term.

    Wet Cabin Sole

So, the wood sole is just screwed down directly into the fiberglass beneath?

    Wet Cabin Sole

Thanks, I'll try that. I've been getting more concerned about it because it has been a few weeks and it is still wet. What happened was I had the portlight over the hanging locker open while I was hosing something down from the other side, and didn't even realize it. The water went into the...

    Wet Cabin Sole

Well guys, I need some advice on drying out the cabin sole in my E31. I had an unfortunate "hatch open while using the hose" situation, and water got into the cabin, and is between the wood veneer of the sole and whatever is under it. I REALLY don't want to tear out the wood sole, so does...
