Boat Waxing for People Not Looking Forward to It.

Back in the 90s my marina offered a polish like this. It held up well for a couple of seasons.

    Froli Travel bed systems?

On our 38 we had mattresses made by Portland Mattress Makers. You lay out a template and they make them to fit. They were super comfortable. Better than our mattress at home!

    E38-200 Autopilot Question ??

I installed the Raymarine unit on my '87 38-200 about 5 years ago. You will need to epoxy a block to the fiberglass to have something to attach the pushrod to. It is a good time to replace your steering cables etc too. It's cozy down there....

Mine is still for sale if you haven’t found the one yet. It is Boston though. I have moved to the Midwest so am a motivated seller. http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/1987/Ericson-38-200-3114982/Salem/MA/United-States?refSource=browse%20listing#.WucMfopOmhB

38-200 for sale in Boston area

I scraped the sole using a heat gun, then lightly sanded. Then 3 coats of Epiphanes gloss with a foam brush and light sand between coats then Epiphanes “brushed effect” for the final coat. I hit it with another coat every other season.

    1990 38-200. Who built?

I believe Ericson went bankrupt in 1990. If you see a listing for a 1990 38-200 (with a Yanmar) was it built by Ericson, Pacific Seacraft, or some combination?

    auto pilot

I have a 1987 E38 with exactly the setup you mention. There was an old Autohelm which was failing on the boat when I bought it. I kept the old linear drive unit (about 25 years old) and just replaced everything else. It has been trouble free. One comment about Raymarine. They are better...

    Used sails from E-38

Seabags There is a company in Portland ME called "Seabags" that will take your sails and make you a free custom bag in return. I have a duffle with the logo from my first boats main and a large tote with the Ericson logo from our current boats original main.

Can I adjust the jaws on my ST winches

In the last issue of Practical Sailor there is a survey of winch grease options. There is a picture in that article of a winch dripping with grease. I put about 20% of that amount on my winches. If anyone has seen that picture I would be interested in your comments.

    Wet sanding gel coat

I wet sanded a previous boat (S2) and was very happy with the results. I suggest you start with something like 1000 grit, rubbing compound, finesse-it and see if that makes you happy. You can go more aggressive on grit but go as fine as you can to remove as little gel coat as possible. The...

    Mast Rainwater!

If anyone has ideas on how to reduce or eliminate this I would love to hear. On our 38-200 we get a lot of rain/snow melt in the winter and since it freezes it always worries me that there might be so much volume that I get an overflow. I often end up melting some mid winter to keep things in check.
