How do you Remove Head Hoses? [Master Thread]

One tip from having done this on two different boats: diapers! My experience, and from others who have done this, is that there always "water" of some kind hiding somewhere in the hoses. Tape is fine but it isn't fool proof and surely not absorbent.

    Shore power not working

somewhat similar issue Although clear not the same issue, I was have problems getting power to my outlets due to reverse polarity. The issue was resolved by putting in a new shore power connection on the boat and the problem cleared up. If yours like mine is the original to the boat, it may...

changing main halyard from wire & rope to all rope on E30+

replacing rope to wire I replaced all mine on my 30+. I went with 100' of 5/16 (8 mm) Crystalyne from APS 8 years ago. APS does a great job and Crystalyne might be a bit over kill it is better to be too strong and have extra than too week and too short. They have held up well and I did not...

    Rigid vang and hatch reversal

hatch reversal I am seriously looking at rigid boom vangs for our E32-3. I have seen reasonable reviews on the Garhauer, both for cost and longevity. Any thoughts? Looks like reversing the direction the hatch opens will be necessary in order to add a rigid vang. so for those of you who have...

A few questions about head cleaning/maintence....

As painful as it may seem to go through the endeavor ofreplacing the head and hoses, it is worth it. One thing I would add is that if you are going to go through the troublenot to forget the air vent hose. I wasstunned to find the condition of the old one when I took it out. In addition to the...

    Hatch Master

agreed I did my hatches a couple of years ago and Tony and his team did great work. I also had them cut new glass for the portholes which spruced things up as well.

    Wilcox Headmate Replacement

The key for me was to cut an inspection port to the right of themanual discharge pump and below the electrical outlet. That allowed me access not only to thatportion of the system but also better ability to refeed the new hoses. Otherwise I was able to reach up through themedicine cabinet to...

    Wilcox Headmate Replacement

just did this I highly recommend replacing your waste hoses if you areswapping out your head. It is a smellyjob but done right it shouldn’t be too bad. I was shocked by the condition of the hoses and feel better now that itis done. I also changed out the air venthose which was surprisingly...

    30+ Strut Placement

prop H Sailorman37 I have a 14" in three blade which is also 4" back of the strut which was the same set up for the previous 12" bowtie prop. I was unaware of any warbling or vibrations prior to the swap over and my mechanic replaced the strut packing as matter of course and not due to any...

    30+ Strut Placement

I looked into it for my 30+ when I repowered but the cost didn't seem worth the trouble. I had the packing in the strut replaced and when to a three blade was added and all is working smoothly. The tree blade compensated for the smaller prop size due to the limited clearance. It is worth...

    30+ halyard replacement

Haylard I should have added that the reason I went with the 8 mm was that it was the largest size the mast sheaves could handle. Anything larger might have caused fraying of the line at best and jamming at worst. Great advice from the yard rigger. I have not experienced any slippage with...

    Toys On The Mast

while you are at it it's worth thinking about adding a blipper, also know as a radar reflector on the mast. Sailboats have a very low radar siginature and in commercial lanes and/or low visibility conditions it never hurts to be seen sooner.

    Service light on

thanks D'oh! So Service means you have it, not that you need it. I guess my mind set from owning an older boat is always thinking something must be wrong. BTW, I highly advise everyone changing their inlet plug, the old one was nasty and I am sure it was causing my polarity problem.

    Service light on

From time to time I mysteriously experienced problems with reverse polarity on my E 30+. It was intermittent with no apparent cause and effect. Often the problem simply went away. Someone suggested that I should replace the electrical intake plug which worked fine and there is now electricity...
