    Help diagnosing possible Tranny/shaft issue

Thanks! Thanks for the suggestions! It's the KH18 model (I found a used one on Ebay too). It's a three blade fixed prop, so I can eliminate the folding prop possibility. Sounds like I should start with the prop/shaft and inspect everything carefully to the tranny. If I don't find something...

    Help diagnosing possible Tranny/shaft issue

Hello All - Here's the background: Just bought the boat. Picked it up from the broker's dock and motored about 30 mins to my marina. No odd sounds, shifted and ran smoothly in both forward and reverse. While docking (for the first time with this boat) I inadvertently shifted from reverse, thru...

Anyone have experience with VW Pathfinder Diesels?

Hello - I'm looking at an Ericson 37 with a 50HP Pathfinder Diesel. Found a little information online, but wondering if anyone here has experience or knowledge with these engines and can tell me the good, bad or ugly? Thanks! John

    Raw Water Pump Leak

Pump Adapter I have a slow drip from the bottom of my Oberdorfer pump too (M202-7). I intended to replace the seals, gaskets and impeller and pulled the pump off yesterday. When I pulled it away from the adapter I noticed the lower right part of the pump adapter (where the drip was) is pitted...

What to do about corroded pedestal base?

Hello, The base of the pedestal on my E-38 is badly corroded (see pics). Can this be repaired? If it needs replaced, does anyone have any experience or ideas to replace it? Can I just replace the base or does the entire pedestal have to be replaced? Thanks! John

    E38 Anchor Locker Challenge

Windlass Pictures Thanks for all the ideas guys! Here's a pic of the windlass. It does indeed drop through from the stock pan... Short term, I like the idea of just cutting off or removing the hawse pipe and piling the chain in the forward space. The little door in the bulkhead is really tight...

    bilge cleaner

Oily bilge I use an industrial citris degreaser/cleaner (CRC Brand) - similar to the Zep product. It works great... I had a little, ahem, mishap installing a new oil filter and ended up with copious amounts of oil in my bilge (despite the carefully placed sorbent pads). I got it all cleaned...

    E38 Anchor Locker Challenge

Chain Locker Pics I got up to the boat yesterday and got some pics (I live 2 hours from the boat - Vancouver WA - Tacoma WA). Now lets see if I can figure out how to get them attached... :) Is the locker supposed to be divided by the short bulk head? Right now the chain all drops into the...

    E38 Anchor Locker Challenge

Hello All, My E38 is set up with an electric windlass and all chain rode. The challenge is that when the chain is coming in, it piles up on itself after it drops into the locker and tends to bind up the windlass. So, when weighing anchor we have to open up the v-berth and station someone down...

    Cleaning up a filthy engine...

Thanks for the suggestions! Given your comments, Rob, and doing some additional reading, I'm probably being a bit over concerned about it... I think I'll take care of what I can reach, coat everything periodically with CorrosionX and as long as everything continues to work well, not worry too...
