Hi Seth
Seth, :p
Thanks for the kind response. The failure was the 8lb. horizontal bronze bar glassed into the hull. The pivot point. Not in any part of the rudder itself, not the pintle.
This bronze bar holds the lower rudder bearing that the pintle slides up and into.
Thanks for the...
Thanks.
Thanks Loren for the quick and helpful responses. I think I will end up with something strapped in place, all in bronze with 5200 involved. I assume I can locate bronze bolts and hardware??
I am thinking of taking the opportunity to make something overbuilt so I can worry about other...
View of gudgeon
This is (hopefully) a view of a similar setup. The yellow line is where it broke off completely.
This is also an Ericson 30-II, hull #3, pic from info exchange archives. Almost identical to mine.
On my boat, hull 23, the bronze gudgeon is identical but longer. That is, it...
 Hi, My Eboat sufferred a serious failure 3 miles off of MDR yesterday when I heard the outboard rudder bumping around. I still had steering. But the lower bronze gudgeon which is permanently imbedded into "hardened epoxy" in the hull at bottom of transom had broken at the pivot point. The...
Tim, It's in the yard now.
I work nights and when I woke up today at the crack of 2pm the boat was gone from the slip. (unless it sank again.)
I will post the reason it sank as soon as I find out the reason. This boat was immaculate. Though never used it was stored with thousands of dollars...
:esad:A neighbors E31 went scuba diving today in MDR. It is back on the top of the water as I type but it was resting on the bottom just a few hours ago. I have never seen this boat leave the slip in the last 5 years or so
My dockmate Michelle took these snaps.

Thanks Loren
Kind of you to chime in ! I took a closer look in the aft berth area and found the wooden housing below the pedestal was mounted using just two screws. No bung removal necessary at all.
The sheaves are very accessable. I have been out of town and have not got any further than...
Hi, I am about to replace the wire rope portion of my wheel steering. Has anyone done this? I assume my boat is very similar to the E30+.
I need to gain access to the area below the pedestal.
:egrin:When I go inside the cockpit locker on the port side I cannot access the area directly below...
Thanks David.
That's good stuff. It could be the same with my 1978 E30-II. It's heavy but seems very dry.
Good thing I tied a rope around it when I pulled it here in my slip. Otherwise I think it would have went straight to the bottom and stuck in like a lawn dart.:egrin:
Thanks David, you...
:confused:Hi, I just pulled my transom hung rudder to paint it. This rudder seems very heavy. I drilled a few holes in it to see if it leaked any water it might have absorbed over the last 30 years but the holes I drilled were all dry and the drilled out material appeared to be wood.
I called...
Just noticed
I just got the fact that you mentioned a set screw in your first response. I would guess it goes in that hole in your picture on the left. Doh !!
Thanks again Mike
E30-II's Rule !
Hey Mike
Wow, that is a big help Mike. Thanks for the kindness. Now I at least have an idea of what's next. The "flanged sleeve", I see is inserted from the top. How is it secured? Just a tight fit?
Thanks again, very much, for the help

Bushing
Hey Mike T,
Thanks for the quick response. Yeah, anything you can do to help me ID this thing or enable me to better describe it so I can get one made up as you suggested.
Mike I am not even sure what it is made of, if it's a nylon type part or metallic??
Thanks again for...
Ahoy mates!
I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I am looking for the bushing that goes on the bottom of E30-II outboard rudder. The "rudder bushing", I'd call it. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance for any advice that may be forthcoming.
Thanks,
Regards...
