Does my pintle or my gudgeon on my E39 need to be repaired?

Originally I was going to do the graphite and epoxy too but the wear on the pintle made it an odd shape. It wasn't really perfectly round anymore so I personally needed to fix that part anyway. It was a pain to remove the rudder and gudgeon but It feels like a long term fix. I'll post a picture...

Does my pintle or my gudgeon on my E39 need to be repaired?

hope this helps... This is pretty out of date but... I had luck taking the pintle and gudgeon to a machinist. They bored a hole into the gudgeon and pressed a fairly thick silicon bronze sleeve into it for around $75. The sleeve's ID was a little smaller than original but very close. The...

Life span of glassed in Back stay chainplates

Should I be worried about my backstay chainplates on my E39? As far as I can tell it looks original and being glassed in I can't see or inspect most of it. Has anyone else replaced theirs and if so how did you go around it? What a great Forum! Leif

    Rigid Vang or not

We also have an E39 and just ordered a Garhauer rigid boom vang. I asked about the 2" version and they told me that it was an aluminum version and that the 1.75" would be fine.... I wonder if I should have insisted on a larger boat version. something to think about if you haven't ordered yet...

    Spinnaker sock

Thanks Loren, I've ordered a Chutescoop with a 47 foot sock. I found the formula of .95* square root of (I*I+J*J)= Max luff. Our rig is a short style mast at 50' rather than 52' so as long as my math is right and my assumtion that the previous owner didn't oversize our 1.5oz sym. then I'll be...

    Spinnaker sock

I'm wondering if anyone knows the correct length for a E 39 spinnaker sock. I'm a couple thousand clicks from home and my symmetrical right now but I'd like to order it now and get home to it in a few weeks... Any help? Thanks in advance.

    New rudder in work

Sounds great! minus the wrapping of course. I've just emailed Foss and they say that they have a new shape since the last e39 rudder they've made. I'm excited to see the new shape. It would be amazing to get some control in reverse. Belafonte

Follow up? I'm sorry if you already followed up on another thread but I'm really curious how the rudder modification has helped. Belafonte

Does my pintle or my gudgeon on my E39 need to be repaired?

I have an E39 that I bought a year and a half ago and I'm suspicious of the play in the lower gudgeon. At the time that I bought it I had to re-install the rudder and just about everything else... but after getting the rudder on I noticed that it has enough play in it to clunk back and forth...
