Randy is correct: Rigg Rite is anything but cheap. Is it a kenyon spar?
Rig rite still sells many kenyon items. but they are not cheap. I have bought a few replacement kenyon items from them. Your cheapest bet I think might be to replace the boom with whatever used one you can find locally, maybe someone parting out a similar sized boat or a used sailboat store.

Since you are in Southern Caif. (as am I), perhaps you could check with Le Fiell in Santa Fe Springs. Maybe they will have something equivalent: http://www.lefiell.com/boom_sections.html
I have a spare boom from an 81' 28+. Length 11' 6".
From another perspective, it seems like all you need to find is a replacement boom of the correct length, and(!) a gooseneck that either its your mast attachment or replaces it with a minimum of fuss.
If you have that, you can work out the outhaul, reefing, and vang stuff.
Kenyon has been gone for decades, but there are used sources out there. Have you contacted these guys: http://www.minneysyachtsurplus.com
and for the best-engineered solution in a new boom, these folks: http://www.ballengerspars.com
Good hunting.

ps: do you have the hardware from the old boom?
Just out of curiosity, what price did they quote you for a new boom?Yes, I have called them and I am looking at way more than I want to spend to it that way.
Thanks, Loren.
I am going to check Minney's and I'll check the other link as well.
Interesting. I went by LeFiell yesterday to check on a certain piece of hardware they have shown and was informed that they are no longer in the marine business at all! That being the case, you'd think they would want to get rid of their old inventory cheap. It was like $950 for just a plain old tube...
