Roller furler hoop

I came across a jibe (100% )with the hanks taken off.
Planning to thread a line through the leech rings and around the furler.
Similar as one would do with a mainsail around the mast. Has anyone
tried this approach. Hope this makes sense.

Sorry meant to thread a line through the luff rings.....

Never tried that, I don't think it will roll up on the Furler, spend the $ for a luff tape4 to 5 dollars a ft. good luck
