    Fuel Filter Change Frequency

I got to pondering this and did a search on Racor (seemed like a good place to start...) on our site and could not quickly find relevant threads about changing filters, etc. The pondering started with a reading of this lengthly thread on another sailing site. The commentary and pics...

Not to change the subject on freewheeling but..

I have wondered if it would be possible or worthwhile to set up a power take off system off the prop shaft to run an alternator. I realize that it would take some work and require both a clutch set up and gearing to step up the shaft speed. The up side however is that when on an extended cruise...

Oil change - there has to be a better way!

Hi All, Had another very frustrating oil change yesterday. My engine is a Universal M35A. I've been changing the oil using one of those manual (pump) oil extractors. They have these long stiff straws which go down the dipstick hole to remove the oil. These "straws" are very long and come...

Lead Acid vs AGM battert change

I'm the 3d or 4th owner of an '82 E-25+ that I can only guess has the original electrical system (or most of it) in it. I currently use two Group 24 Dual Purpose lead-acid batteries to start the Yanmar 1GM diesel and to run the cabin and running lights. (I always start with battery 1 and only...

    E35-2 Engine position change

As the engine mounts on my 1972 E35-2 had rusted away, and I need to fit a new engine anyway. To give us a bit more room I have decided to re-locate the engine under the companionway steps. Has anyone else out there done it? All the brochures and plans I have found so far have shown the engine...

Senta has her color back and a wardobe change too

I really like Senta in her original blue cove stripe ! The plugged portholes are now also fixed with the plywood gone, replaced with solid FG. The silly TV and phone hookup on the _outside_ of the hull is also now just a memory. We got the geonoa back with a new white sacrificial UV cover...

    Transmission Fluid Change

I'm sure there is a thread on checking and changing the transmission fluid. If you can link me to that thread I'd certainly appreciate it. My 1988 E-32-200 has the Universal M25XP engine, but I'm not sure what transmission was supplied by Ericson for this boat. I don't have any transmission...

    Torpedo Bulb Keel change

http://www.islander36.org/boatpics/shillelagh/shillelagh.html The topic of draft reduction on the external-lead keel on the later Ericson-constructed boats comes up regularly on this site. I was doing a bit of 'net research and found the above link detailing the torpedo bulb conversion on an...

    name change on transom

finally far enough through my restoration/upgrade list to get around to changing the name on the transom. Problem is I have a dark blue hull - probably Awlgrip or (more likely) Imron. Beautiful paint job I do not want to mess with - but I have a hunch that when I pull off the exiting vinyl...

    Oil Change Process

What is the process for changing the oil on a Universal M18? There appears to be a hose attached to the sump. Is it just a matter of attaching a vacuum pump of some sort to that hose? What about changing transmission fluid?

    cutless bearing change on E-32

how hard is it and what does it cost?

    Oil change, how many quarts?

Does anyone know the oil capacity for the Universal 5432? I can't seem to find this info anywhere. That would be with a filter change also. Thanks, Don

Will the cut of the main sail change the boom height?

Attached are two pictures I took while giving Shazam her annual bath, one of the sails raised on my E-36 RH and the other is the boom height with the main raised. Right now the boom is the perfect height to knock my block off. I think these are the original Hood sails. When I get new sails is it...

    E-27 Atomic 4 oil change

Heres a quick and hopefully easy question for you guys. How in the world do you change the oil on the Atomic 4 that was put in the ericson 27 (diagrams would be helpfull). Thanks.

    Atomic 4 Oil Change

Is there no oil filter on the older (1973 vintage) A-4's? The manual I have says to just change the oil, drain and fill with 30W oil. I noticed Art Mullinax posted this same question last year and I didn't see a response. I found two drain plugs but no internal/external filter? No filter does...

    E30+ Halyard change

I have a 1985 E30+ with a wire to rope halyard that needs replacing. I would like to replace with an all rope version, but am unsure if I would also need to re-size the sheave on the original masthead. Read a similar question/response about an E27, but the rig is substantially different...
