Keeping Birds Off Your Boat

I came across this video in which a guy who is tired of pidgeons pooping in his spa rigged up a sprinkler activated by a motion sensor. It would probably be a bit of a challenge to rig on a sailboat, but it sure looks effective!

Funny stuff

Since I have worked the swimming pool industry for over twenty years, I got an extra chuckle out of it and immediately sent it out to other pool gurus across the country. Thanks for sharing!

We have Swallows under our docks and they love to roost on life lines. I experimented and found out that tin foil draped over the length of your life lines on both sides of your boat does help keep them off. I tried CDs but they used them as a perch.

I got one of those devices (it's called a Scarecrow) a few years ago to keep cats from pooping on the lawn of our previous house. It worked and was fun to listen to it running the little darlings off in the middle of the night. :p

Bird Repeller

Active Captain has a deal with Defender on a bird repeller called Deck Guard Ultrasonic Bird Repeller. Defender is discounting the product about $15 from its regular price of about $69; the sale ends June 12. Here's some info from the Defender site:
http://www.defender.com/activecaptain.jsp. Does anyone have experience with this product?
