Captain Crunch where are you located? If in Channel Islands area I have a great one for you. He only does custom jobs and pricing is reasonable.

I'm located up in Vancouver, B.C. I have a line on getting one manufactured in Panama, where i'll be for a month in the fall. How much does your guy generally charge for say a half cockpit sized dodger?

Well that is a question that I didn't expect to get asked! But I know better then to be that vague on forums like these. I was thinking of the half of the cockpit from the companion way to maybe the middle but not including the pushpit. Im not interested in one of those full zip closed rooms that encompasses the whole half of the boat. Ahhhhh.... any useful resources out there for something like this? Thanks in advance everyone. :egrin:

I don't know how helpful this might be, but I have met the designer and he seems as thoughtful in person as the web site seems to suggest.
If I were in the Seattle area I might save up my dollars and have him design and build one for me.
There are a number of hi-rez photos on his site, and maybe some of those ideas might give you some inspiration...
;)

Plan B would be to make a mold and produce my own hard dodger. A couple of talented DIY-ers at our club have done this.

Keep us posted, and remember that we want pictures of whatever you put on that Ericson!

Cheers,
Loren

ps: you might want to ask Phil about how much "shelter" is enough, as he has sailed his 35-2 to Hawaii and back.

I would say you are looking at 2k. I had one manufactured for my old E27 and it cost 1,200. look at this site www.ericson27.org and if you like it the name of the place is called anacapa canvas in Ventura, CA. They generally only do custom jobs, many people have inquired about my dodger and I do not know if they called. I am having a new one one constructed for my 30+ and cost is 1,500 with grab bars on the top.

Hope this helps...

Canvass Maker in Port Townsend

There is a very good canvassmaker in Port Townsend. Her name is Helen, and she is only working parttime anymore, as I understand it. You might call Carol Hasse at Port Townsend sails to get in contact with Helen. Your best fit would be to take your boat down there for a fitting.

If you want the best, Helen comes pretty close.

There is a 35-2 in my marina that has a dodger that seems to have the pipes bent just right for the lines of the boat. If I ever put one on mine I'm going to copy it. If you want I can go take a picture and some measurements.

I’ll add my two cents worth on dodgers. When I bought Queenie a few years ago she didn’t have a dodger. Being tucked away over here in Eastern Washington I didn’t have the many choices that you coast dwellers have in specialists for boat stuff. A local upholstery shop that we had used for re-upholstering our cushions had made three dodgers over the years. As a matter of fact the very first dodger they had ever made was on a 34 Cal. that is still in our marina. It took longer then she promised but after a few nagging phone calls they came out and installed the Dodger. All and all they did a pretty good job. If it was a company that specialized in Dodgers I wouldn’t be as forgiving about how the “glass” is a little wavy. But for a company that has little experience in Dodgers I think they did a pretty good job. We paid just over $3,000.00 three years ago.

Some friends of ours bought a used 35’ Island Packet in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
><st1:State w:st=
Cal in our marina. So I talked to the lady at " />Portland two years ago. It had a dodger and sun room that were pretty well shot so they had a couple of shops in Portland give them bids for replacing it. Both of these shops came recommended by folks at their marina. One bid was close to a thousand bucks higher then the other one. Naturally they took the lower of the two bids. Long story short, they have never been happy with the way the new dodger turned out and feel as though instead of saving a thousand on the cheaper bid that they lost four thousand on a poorly made dodger.

I think with Dodgers much like everything else, you get what you pay for.

Below are a few pictures of Queenie with her dodger and Bimimi.
