Need Steering Parts for 1972 E32-2 (wheel & quadrant)

Diligence

Junior Member
I have one of the early Ericson 32s that had a tiller instead of a wheel. I want to convert it to a wheel but am having trouble finding the parts. I have the pedestal, but still need a wheel and a quadrant. If you either of those parts and are willing to part with it, please let me know how much you would like for them.

Thanks,

Rick

Here's what you need from Edson Marine:

From this link:

At this website:

I'm guessing the conversion will probably cost a couple of grand for the hardware, and you might have to pull the fuel tank to get workable access.

THEN:

Are you really going to put that fuel tank back? Hmmm...it's just another few hundred...gee, such good access to this side of the engine, maybe the mounts are getting soft and need to be replaced...shucks, might as well pull the engine and get all four mounts...as long as it's out might as well do a valve job and add freshwater cooling, and gee, look at that engine bed, it's a little rusty, and how about that shaft seal, kinda getting old, huh...?

I thought I was the only one who thought like that! :egrin:

That's the wrong data sheet for my boat. Mine's an older model that has a platform in the back that the pedestal sits on. I.e., I need a much shorter pedestal than the one shown in the datasheet.

Really? The tiller and rudder tube orientation are spot-on for my tiller-steered 1969 E 32, which is probably the same design as yours, and I think that's the right one for my boat.

There is a platform separating the aft "bathtub" section of the cockpit from the forward section in my boat and in the Edson plans, but the plans seem to show a long pedestal option or that blue 15" measurement as an option to accommodate the "hump" between the forward and aft parts of the cockpit. In any case, try the other E-32 options:

and

or just call them. I understand they have a lot of custom plans that they probably haven't bothered to put into PDF form or publish on their website.

If you are looking for used parts, try Bacon and Associates in Annapolis. They have a variety of wheel pieces that come and go (they do consignment stuff). Here's a link to their website (they only list a small amount of hardware on line, so give a call):
