Greetings -
I thought I should let all you guys know that I've changed the settings with respect to new members...
Loren knows all about this because he's been trying to fend off the hordes at the gates...while I was out of town...and I've been dealing with it for awhile now...hoping it would go away...but noooooo.....
For the last year - and especially in the last three months - a new wave of spamming bots have been unleashed upon the web. We have Russian and Ukrainian and Brazilain and Nigerian bots attempting to open accounts with us and then flood our database with all kinds of fun things...
So - the new settings require that new members (once they complete their registrations) will have to be manually verified (I push a button) to ensure they are who they say they are, etc...before they can post, etc.
This has not presented a problem yet - as I'm here all the time, working on stuff for school anyhow...but it does add a small delay in processing new people...we typically only get a couple a day, etc anyhow...so...
Our email servers have been getting hit as well - with routine submittals typically in the 4-10 a day range (see the image below - that's my 'failed mail folder' for EY.o...).
Anyhow - the upshot is that I'm going back and changing some things on the new site in response to all of this.
The new applications will be very bot-unfriendly. Of course, this means that finishing 'EY.o v.2' will take a little longer now...
As usual, if you have questions, please feel free to let me know...
