Once I got it open I was amazed that it had worked well up until about a month ago. The bearing was completely packed in hard gunk and the two disks that were supposed to rotate with the help of the ball bearings were just about seized onto the shaft.
With half a can of WD40 I got the bearings, disks, o-rings and shaft all apart and cleaned. Since I didn't know what kind of oil is supposed to be used I just went to town with McLube, dry lubricant. Now the furling spins like a top.
