The furler setup is kind of funky. A prior owner apparently wanted to do it on the cheap and came up with a workable but non-optimal hank-on jib furler.
It has worked great for furling the jib, but doesn't really work for reefing the headsail, no matter.
The problem is that the bearings seem to have gone out. I consulted with Brian Toss' site http://www.briontoss.com/education/archive/miscnov03.htm and I suspect that the Schaefer "plastic" bearings have either deformed or worn down.
On to the question, can the bearings be serviced ?
The furler used to be virtually frictionless. Now I have to use a winch to get the sail in :-(
