With our Jan 2020 migration to Xenforo, EY.o now has a extensive content management system (CMS) and blogging capabilities for those who may be interested.

Common Questions:

What is "Blogging"? Blogging came originally from the idea of logging - ones thoughts or a discussion on a general topic.

How is blogging different than using the forums? Blogging generally is a serial installment from the same writer over a longer period of time. The period of time can vary - weekly, once a month, etc. - but typically it is pretty constant. Forum posts are typically stand alone in format, and tied to a specific topic/issue.

The blogging subjects can vary for the writer, but typically, they tend to coalesce around a larger standardized theme or subject. Blogs are usually interactive and can be broken into chunks for discussion. Threads on the other hand (what you do in the Information Exchange) are typically much narrow in scope - usually involving only a single topic or focal point.

Who can be a blogger on EY.o? Anyone who is interested can blog - every user has the capability - the only caveat is that it typically involves more writing and more interaction than just putting out a single line or two in a thread.

What is a blog not? A blog is not a single posting for advice, or an ad trying to sell or buy something or a notice that you're heading out Sunday night for a sail - all very short topics.

Possible Subjects - It could be about
  • owning a used equipment store,
  • restoring a boat - I would have enjoyed that...
  • about your cruising - a log of sorts....
  • about being a boat owner and parent and what that's like...
  • about being a retired boat owner and what that's like...
  • about your profession (linked somehow to sailing or Ericsons, or something like that)
  • a racing group or race series
  • a social sailing group (there are group blogs which are possible for this also - CEOA members, I'm looking at you....)
  • or just about anything else you (or you and a group) can think of - its very flexible.
How do I start blogging? Simple; you only need to first review the EY.o Blogging Guidelines (LINK), and then
  • Create a blog (a container to put post entries into), and
  • Create the first entry, followed by another four within the first year.
We will review your first five entries and approve them. After five successful posts, you will automatically be given a 'Blogs Author' title plate by your user name and you'll be able to post without any additional review.

So - explore, take a look around, look at what others have done, and give it some thought. We would enjoy hearing from you - and many of you have interesting things to talk about (and people can respond/reply/comment in the blogs - so it's not a one-way street).
