Discovery Year 2 - New engine

Rate this Entry
It's May 4, 2015 and Discovery has a new Nanni 21 HP 3 stroke engine and new diesel fuel tank and lines.

I'm excited to get back on the Chesapeake Bay, Maryland and sea test her.

Any fellow Ericson owners between Annapolis and Galesville, give a holler and I'll buy you a beer.

Gotta ask..... How'd you end up with the Nanni diesel? I ask because so many folks have repowered with Beta or sometimes Yanmar.
Presume you mean't 3 cylinder and not a "3 stroke" engine!
    Regards,
    Loren

You are correct, I meant 3 cylinder, I'm a little excited and can't keep things straight today.

I spent time calling all the marina's in the Chesapeake area. Most were talking 10-12 to repower. Finally one of my leads wrote back to say they knew a guy.... Turns out someone had started a project and walked away after purchasing a new Nanni engine.. When I looked into it, I found a brand new - crated, 21 H.P., 3 cylinder engine in the original manufacturers grease. $3,500 and it was mine. $950 for top of the line control panel, $4,000 for engine installation and another $750 to have a new fuel tank made and installed along with new fuel lines and fuel separator.

I did not go looking for a Nanni, I expected to replace with Beta. But this was a find and I grabbed it.

    Hi Reflections,

What a surprise..... I am also at Holiday Hill Pier 2, slip 26... it's empty at this moment waiting for Discovery to complete her repower.

    This is another great find.

I know the place well and a Blue Moon it is.

I stopped by Sunday and found your Ericson, Looking forward to coming aboard. M

Mine is an Ericson 30+ 1983. I expect to pull into pier 2, slip this weekend if 1) the engine work is done or 2) it doesn't rain.

    See you soon.

I'll take you up on that beer also! I have just completed the delivery of our (new to us) E38. Brought her down from Montauk Point, L.I. She did very well and handled the 30-35 knot winds on the nose offshore very well. Now looking forward the summer and meeting other E owners. I am keeping her at Green Point Marina, Eastern Shore, Worton Creek. Just north of Rock Hall. Am going down this Saturday for an overnighter. Not sure of where we are going, maybe to Rock hall or Baltimore.
    Se Ya on the water!
