I pulled the engine on my E34. With it sitting on the ground, I could directly measure the ratios by turning the crankshaft and monitoring the output of the Hurth transmission. In forward, the ratio is 2:1. In reverse, 1.2:1 or something close to it. That puzzles me - I would have expected reverse to be higher than forward, but there it is.
At first, I was surprised that the engine and the transmission output turn in opposite directions. I shouldn't have been. Both are right hand turning, but from opposing directions. Alas, there is no model number that I can find on the transmission.
