Engine serial number of 5432 on ericson 38

Hey , im moving registration of the boat, and they are pretty insistant on getting the serial number of the engine. i have an ericson 38 from 82 with its original universal atomic 5432 engine. but the metal plate on the top is impossible to read teh letters from. is there any other source i could find that info. maybe somehow related to info stored somewhere with the boats hull number... any suggestion is welcome.

This might be helpful:
The serial number for these 4 cylinder Kubotas is stamped right next to the injection pump on the machined face of the IP mounting boss surface. Universal does a great job of covering this up with paint so that you really have to scrape to find it.

Won't hurt to scrape or use paint remover, since the number is stamped in pretty deep.
