I lost Rule of Thumb 1987 Ericson 34 electric conversion to a storm last year and have some things that I thought someone here may benefit from. The story on the engine is I received it already removed when I purchased ROT from another member here( The listing thread is still here somewhere),It was in the boat when the sea scouts had it and one of the boys left the sea cock open and it took in salt water. Sea scouts weren't able to spend the money to go into it and sold it to the owner before me that installed the quiet yacht electric.Full disclosure, I don't know what its worth, I am looking for someone who wants it and will come get it. This is the first place I wanted to offer it. If you know how much it's approximate values I welcome your comments as well. There is also a custom fit set of sheets for births and settee for a E34.

The boat was amazing, she taught me how to sail, I have been enriched by the experience.

Special thanks to Christian Williams for his videos were an inspiration.

Thanks everyone for your time and attention.

Unfortunately, if the engine was not cleaned out after a major dose of salt water it may not be worth much. I picked up an M-12 which suffered a similar fate and found that the only things salvageable were the block and the head. Everything else was unusable junk. Can you turn the engine over by hand once you remove the injectors? Remove the valve cover and see if the rocker assembly is frozen with rust. It may be a candidate for the scrap metal yard. Alternators and starter motors don't usually survive a saltwater bath. Brutally honest assessment.

One more thing. If the seals on the transmission held and the oil looks clean, that may be salvageable. Of course, in order to free that up the bell housing has to be removed. May not be worth the effort.

Thank you Al, for your comments and information. When I picked the engine up I had driven about 5 hours west into Maryland to the PO's home where he had the engine and several other Items that belonged with the boat. He said that it had been cleaned out and Fogged(oil in the cylinders), and he was holding it to sell. I paid asking price for the boat and the Engine was part of the deal. I would really like to find someone that can use it and make them a really good deal on it. The previous owner and I sill communicate. I am sure that I can arrange a conversation with any prospect to speak with him about the preparations that were taken to lay up the engine.

I don't find Honesty to be brutal, I actually prefer it.
Thanks Wade.

Original Post, from PO.

Reached out to PO; Response was that " A mechanic was working on the motor/trans within hours after the occurrence. Suspects the motor/trans to be fine but the wiring and starter may be suspect."

The engine is in Maryville Tn, 37803.

If you need this, make an offer.

Thanks Wade

That's positive news. If I was a potential buyer, I would still do the two basic things I mentioned as a preliminary assessment. Still better would be to set it up and test fire it. If it runs, then the value goes way up. I sold a Yanmar 2GM-20F by doing that. Posted the video on the Cruisers site and found an interested buyer.

The engine and trans on our 87 E34-2 is in good shape but fitted sheets would be the icing on the cake !!. Let me know what you want for them and shipping to 60625.
Thanks

Us mail in a bag would probably be the cheapest. Let me run them by the Post office and see what the shipping would be and you can send me that and have the sheets friend. The V birth is not there however.

Jesus, I thought those sheets had pockets, and for the life of me couldn't figure out for what they'd be used. Thought I'd had my fill of coffee for the day, being after noon and all, but guess not.
