How will you know unless you dig into the blister? We had blisters that had multiple layers of delamination of the fiberglass. We kept going until we hit fiberglass that looked and sounded (tapped) solid. Even then, as described in one of the threads linked above, moisture bubbled up in a few...
Among the abundance of blisters we repaired over the past couple of years were old repairs of small blisters. It appears that these were filled as you propose. Water had penetrated around many of these. Of course I cannot vouch for methods as it was long before I owned the boat. Perhaps...
The PO replaced the sole with artificial teak-and-holly. I don't know how they attached it. Or if I can put it right back down. I'm looking forward to your video.
I'm guessing that they would have cleaned out everything that was made accessible, but who knows. At this point, given what...
Thank you for the video, Christian. That was very illuminating.
There also seems to be fluid coming from the cross-pieces. Note the plugs that are, no doubt, supposed to keep the inside of the cross-pieces dry. On my boat some of those plug fittings have come out (not just the stopper). So...
Does anyone have experience with fluid leaking from the Tri-axial Force Grid? Upon buying this boat about 2 years ago we trucked it from San Diego to Bellingham, WA. Shortly after arriving in Bellingahm a dark fluid started leaking from the aft-most cross piece in the grid. It was coming from...
My tank is under the quarter birth. We already cut off the birth. Now I will expand the inspection port, a la Christian's video. Then it will be pretty easy to access the lowest spot in the tank where the leak seems to be. We already cleaned the tank, so a final cleaning for this purpose...
Thanks Bryan. We got the fuel out of the tank and cleaned up all the we could see (we know it will be showing up for a while). Then I put a few cups of water with green food coloring to see if the low point is the source. The green water showed up in the bilge. There is not obvious corrosion...
A few days ago we discovered diesel in the bilge of our E38. We removed the battery (forward of the fuel tank under the quarter birth) to find a slow-drip rate of flow coming from under the fuel tank. The rate is about 1/2 gallon a day, which is what we are removing from the bilge. We cleaned...
We replaced the rotten teak veneer with Formica also. It looks good and brightens the cabin. The only problem we have had with that is re-attaching the trim. And there is no longer wood to which to attach the head liner. I'm not good with wood, so still trying to solve that problem.
Here are some pictures of my broken fitting. A close up and the whole assembly that was there when we bought the boat a short time ago.
Gabriel - Did you get that at a hardware store or is it a marine specialty part?
