I am the new owner of a 1975 E23. I noticed the mast heel has a hinge and pin, but the mast does not connect to the heel. Any suggestions on how to safely step the mast? The boat came with a gin pole. I’ll probably replace it longer term, just hoping to get it on the water this season!

Thanks. The boat is still on the trailer so we tugged on the mast from the port side and noticed some flexing. No access ports so we are going to cut it open and hopefully is not a major structural issue.
