Ericson 32-200 (1989) for sale in San Pedro, CA

The interior teak veneer is finished at last, and I've stained the veneer to match the rest of the cabin. I'm still touching up the stain in other parts of the cabin and the trim strips need to be installed. Here are some new photos I took yesterday. There's still some work to do, but it's...

Ericson 32-200 (1989) for sale in San Pedro, CA

Waiting on the interior teak veneer to be completed, then I can install the new windows. I got the aft fixed ports rebuilt locally, reusing the existing frames. Hopefully the hired out work will be completed this week. I'll post some photos of the work when it's done. I'm just barely able to...

Ericson 32-200 (1989) for sale in San Pedro, CA

I hesitated to post an asking price publicly because I'm not entirely sure how much to mark off for the work that needs to be done. I've had this conversation in PM with a couple of people. So, I think she's worth $22,000 in present condition. There's about $10,000 worth of work, mostly labor...

Ericson 32-200 (1989) for sale in San Pedro, CA

I updated the shared folder with some new images of the interior. I'm meeting a workman Saturday to get an estimate for interior teak restoration. The starboard forward fixed port is a new one. The boat is getting the exterior brightwork refinished and a wax and buff this week. Image folder

Ericson 32-200 (1989) for sale in San Pedro, CA

Here's a link to a shared folder with some photos of the outside I shot this week. I'm going to try to reduce the chaos on the inside this weekend before I take some interior photos to add to the shared folder. I'll post again later when I have added those. The topside is going to be washed...

Ericson 32-200 (1989) for sale in San Pedro, CA

When I was employed, I could afford to keep putting off a reckoning with whether I really wanted to keep this boat. But I was laid off in January of this year, and severance and savings aren't going to last. I'm hiring some help this week to get the boat in better shape, finish unfinished...

Anyone in the LA Harbor area have AIS ?

Well if it's any comfort, on the Haha cruise last year, the boat I crewed on had AIS, and we could see other Haha boats with AIS 70 miles or more away, and they could see us. The antenna was mounted in about the same place as yours.

    Handheld GPS ?

It wasn't blatant mis-information, sir. As you yourself noted, sir, the 3GS iPhone does not have a standalone GPS chip. And I made my comments based on personal testimony from iPhone and iPod users with whom I cruised the 2010 Baja Ha-Ha, iPhone users who got no location data until they got to...

    Handheld GPS ?

None of the Apple i-things have a standalone GPS chip. They all require either 3G data access, or wireless access, to internet servers for calculating location. None of them can give location without internet access. Android phones from HTC or Samsung include standalone GPS chips and can...

Property tax bill for my dinghy? Really?

Well this is a bunch of happy horseshit. The county assessed the value of the Porta-Bote I payed $1300 for new at $2195. The minimum value for a boat to get taxed is $2000. So this is a bunch of crap - they deliberately inflated the assessed value so it would be taxable. I am contesting the...

Property tax bill for my dinghy? Really?

I received an unsecured property tax bill from the Los Angeles County Asessor, for my Porta-Bote folding dinghy that I bought last year. Are dinghies subject to property tax in LA county? If so, that's a new one on me. Never received a bill for my Mercury inflatable which I purchased new in...

    New California Fuel Container Woes

Of course there is. Remove the adult-proof cap and pour into the fuel tank with a funnel. I am aware of no regulation that requires me, the end-user, to use a broken fill cap, even if it is required to be sold with the can. I am, however, aware of regulations requiring me to take care not to...
