Cat harbour or Isthmus Harbour this weekend ?

Envy!!! I am envious of you Sven. I want so bad to sail Dodlrums up to Catalina and it seems every weekend there is something that comes up. This coming week its a new job I am starting. A total career change for me. I have been self-employed for 12 years and now starting next week I will...

    E-27: stepping the mast

Bob Bob Va, What you are saying interests me. I sail an E26, vintage 1967, I don't think the mast has been down in many years. I will need to change the standing riging some time in the next year. I would like to see some diagrams or pictures of how this system works. Would you be so...

Cat harbour or Isthmus Harbour this weekend ?

Too busy I have to move furniture all weekend. Auugh!!! Anyway I''m down here with Lew. From Chula Vista to Avalon is at least a 14 hour sail. And one other thing for you to think about Sven, this week and next week are high school graduations. Catalina is a primary destination for many...

    ericson 26 circumnavatigation!

OK here's my opinion, for what its worth. The Bahaha that leaves from San Diego to Cabo usually around Holoween each year has a variety of boats. According to "Lattitude 38" the recomended minimum size boat is 30 feet. Sounds good to me. I just looked at an article in "Lattitude" this month...

    Compass calibration

yep I agree electronic compasses are not as reliable as magnetic. And you do need to know the variance for your specific location (found on the latest chart's compass rose) and you need to know the deviation for your boat (found by "swinging" your boat to know fixes also found on local chart)...

What happens to a junk boat?

Occaisonally the Harbor Police in conjuction with the Coast Gaurd and the Port District in San Diego make a sweep of San Diego Bay and clean up all the derelics or abondoned boats around the Bay. When they plan on doing one of these sweeps they usually make several announcements in local papers...

    San Diego Bay web site

Here is a real cool link to a web site that has a lot of good info about sailing inside San Diego Bay. Click on, surf around, and then tell me what you think of it. I would like others in different Southern California Harbors to post similar web sites for their respective bays and harbors, so...

Any E 26 owners out there?

yep Robert, I purchased an older E26 two years ago this month. We christened her "Doldrums". She is 1967 vintage and her hull number is 4 according to the registration, but I really don't know of a way to confirm her hull number because I cannot find anywhere on the boat where that number...

Hurth HBW 50 & Things Going "Clunka-Clunka" in the Night...

You guys are the best!!! I agree with Chris let's go sailing and try locked and unlocked and see which gives the best speed and report back. Number of blades and diameter of prop, etc. might help us to configure some kind of chart. I don't know if it is really worth doing all that, unless...

Hurth HBW 50 & Things Going "Clunka-Clunka" in the Night...

stay on line please Chris and Seth, Please don't go off line for this discussion I find it very educational. As for removing my outboard while sailing, that is next to impossible while single-handing within San Diego Bay. First the engine is pretty heavy and second I need to straddle the...

outboard? I assume that the "in reverse" issue applies to those of us who use outboards as well, or is it not important?
