New, to me, 1984 Ericson 30+

Juni, you can still have a bimini, it just has to be closed under sail. That's how our boat was set up when we got it. I believe you where at Ralph's Fishing Station in Mt. Sinai. Yes, that family is great. Old Man's Boatyard, the outfit that handles our boat has more of a "Service with a grunt"...

New, to me, 1984 Ericson 30+

Juni, we have a 1983 30+. One of the first things I did was to raise the boom to clear the bimini. I guess the previous owners only used the bimini at anchor or the dock. On our boat there were already screw holes in the mast at the higher level. The only downside was the mainsail couldn't be...

    New bulkhead

Hi, Leif. The bulkhead has held up fine. I was just at the boat yesterday in the boatyard in fact and I checked everything and it still seems fine. Please stay in touch, I'd be happy to help you out if I can. Sorry for the late response, this is my first time on the site in awhile. John

    Air in fuel system

This entire sailing season, short as it was for us, was marked by a persistent air leak in our boat's fuel system. On several occasions the motor, a Universal 5416, would conk out, sometimes right after starting up or at other times after running for awhile. What we first thought was...

    Heat exchanger raw water exhaust.

I feel like a dope. I have removed and reinstalled my heat exchanger several times. I removed it last fall to examine and service it but this time I can't see where the hose from the raw water exit of the exchanger connects to. I guess I thought it was so obvious that I didn't need to label it...

    Racor filter for Universal 5416

Thanks Thanks all for your replies. A rep from Racor/Parker got back to me yesterday and recommended an R20 filter. I bought one at a local marine supply that came with a 2 micron element. I think that's a little too fine for my situation so I also bought a 10 micron as a back-up. Today I'm...

    Racor filter for Universal 5416

I would like to replace my original primary fuel filter with a Racor filter but can't seem to find out which one I need for the Universal 5416 diesel. Can anyone give me some advice as to which unit I should install? Also some tips on cleaning out my fuel tank would be welcomed as well. Thanks...

    Fresh water pump

Thanks guys, I'll check it out tomorrow. Pat, our pump works but it's noisy. It's on off on off while it's on, that's why I thought it needed replacing. Maybe I'll just leave it. John

    Fresh water pump

Can anybody tell me where the fresh water pump is located on the 30+? I can hear it but I can't see it. I have no water in the fresh water tanks so I can't run it for too long while I look for it. It sounds like it's under the cockpit. It's rather noisy so I'd like to replace it.* John

    Bilge pump issue

Chris, I have an 83 30+ as well and have had most of it apart. I haven't had any problems with my bilge pump but if can help you with anything else, let me know. John.

    E27 Bulkhead Replacement

Don, I replaced the main bulkhead in my E-30+ a few years ago. I posted the whole thing here under "New bulkhead" I'm not sure how to link posts but if you look for it, you can find it. The gray material is most likely a spacer between the bulkhead edge and the hull. It's there to prevent hard...
