Yeah, we had been troubleshooting it with them, they even swapped out our unit under warranty. We let them know, but I guess Garmin support is going to be Garmin support, and not actually learn anything.
So most of the problem with the Garmin G-Wind is they did not properly terminate the RS485 bus at the GND-10. The underlying up/down mast is the old school Nexus network, from when the instruments were made by Silva.
Anyhow, the fix is pretty simple. Add a 120ohm resistor across the data pair...
Hello everyone,
Well this past summer the PNW Rendezvous banner got handed over to S/V Sagres, so I figured I'd start the process of organizing the rendezvous on the BC side of the border for 2024.
Initially, I've reached out to both Genoa Bay (where the 2022 rendezvous was held) and Poet's...
We had a little bit of experience (my mother is a retired home-ec teacher so taught me a bit of sewing when I was a kid) but the first real experience was the dodger. We then did things like a new mainsail cover, winch covers, and similar. The latter are actually more difficult given how small...
Which is kind of funny given how easy it is to drop the rudder. We’re tiller steering, so dropping the rudder basically consists of removing one bolt and lowering it down.
I think the offset is deliberate to try and reduce the pull while under motor. Our E27 is an inboard conversion (shipped as an outboard version, retrofited to a yanmar 1gm10 in '83) and the shaft comes out about an inch to starboard from center.
We’re actually looking at sewing our own with a SailRite kit. We did our own 130% Jib about 5 years ago using one of their kits, and it’s held up great. The whole thing arrived in a tube and a box, and was remarkably simple to put together. 3 of us working over a weekend got it done. Of course...
Just booked our spot for our E27 Sagres and dinghy Prince Hal. Sagres turns 50 this year, so it will be fun to toast this milestone. Also, looking to defend the blind dinghy race title. :)
Yep, our '73 E27 pulls to one side while under power. That said, while motoring we usually let the robot (A Simrad TP32 tillerpilot) drive.
One of the tricks I've learned when doing low speed maneuvering is to use bursts of engine power, then let Sir Isaac Newton (aka momentum) do its thing...
This is part of the reason we use an unpressurized origo alcohol stove, and a Force-10 Kerosene heater on our E-27. We do have propane aboard, but only for the barbecue. Both the grill and the tube with the tanks hang off the back rail.
That’s how ours is. I don’t mind the length. Having it up under the dodger makes PNW winter sailing much more enjoyable. What we did do was modify it a bit to make the end a bit higher (re-drilled the forward bolt-hole about 1/2” lower and filled the old one). That significantly improved the...
