A Day Offshore in an Ericson 381

We just finish the first half (sitting in a transient slip typing this) of our first overnight trip on the bay but before we did we made sure to stock up on “boat bacon”! Three sometimes hard to find half-cans which are ideal for two people unless of course the other person hates SPAM which then...

A Day Offshore in an Ericson 381

Christian, as a long time consumer of SPAM I have to take exception on how you prepare a meal with it. My preferred way is to pan fry slices (not chunks) throw some cheese over the slice in the pan, cover to melt. Lay it all on a slice of artisan bread with some dark brown mustard. Yum! Leave...

Any hams out there planning to operate Field Day from your boats this year?

Of course knowing little about amateur radio operations….when I first read the title of this posting I was wondering what canned meats have to do with sailing. :egrin:

    40 years of monohull "evolution"

“Why is this not thread drift? Because, um, er, ah, it extends the evolution in design to subsequent interactive oblique consequences and refractory counterarguments inversely proportional to the limitation of initially presumtive exclusionary intention.” …and it’s all interesting reading. :egrin:

    40 years of monohull "evolution"

This has been one of the most interesting group of comments I've ever read on the EYO site! A physiological examination of sorts as to why we all bought a Ericson. For me it was a simple choice, almost an epiphany. In my pre-Ericson days, long ago, I was the owner of a Hunter 285 which my...

Baltimore bridge struck by ship, collapses

The first mate and I took Vesper out of Back Creek in Annapolis for its first sail of 2024 and to take a good look at our newly cleaned and repaired head sail. One of the first things we noticed was the lack of freights anchored out waiting their turn to enter Baltimore. Not one ship could be...

Baltimore bridge struck by ship, collapses

Well, so we are. It’s getting like I just don’t know where I am half the time. This happens when you retire, remember it or better yet write it down cause you won’t remember. :egrin:

Christian, you had me laughing out loud at “the essence of a French Motel 6”!

    Solar panel wiring setup

Thinking of a smaller solar setup on my E32 and so I’ve been doing some research. The one point I do remember reading is to try and have a controller for each panel because if the only controller you have craps out then you can’t charge but if you have one controller for each panel then on...

Featured in Forbes re: Mid-Career Pause

I count myself as one of the lucky ones, I guess, because during my almost 50 year career as a photographer, with most of it being a freelance commercial/editorial photographer having a “job” was a matter of hustling to get the work from a variety of sources. So, even though I worked with a...

“So how do you do that?”

A little while ago I was adding my two cents to another forum and in the course of doing so I included this :egrin: smiling Ericson face to my comments. My first mate, who was just happen to be looking over my shoulder at the time (I can’t get away with anything here) asked, “So how do you do...

Baltimore bridge struck by ship, collapses

Wow! This topic sure got off course and it’s all your fault Christian. :egrin: Maybe this conversation needs to be moved over to the Raft Up forum? As far as truth in the news goes there is only one source for it IMO and I’m not telling here, on this internet site, cause it’s partly political...

E34 Pink Panther visit - what I learned (with pictures)

I have to say that we’ve had many comments from strangers walking the docks, at our home port on the Chesapeake Bay or when we’re at a transient slip, asking what band boat we have an how ”lovely“ (yes, big old sailors have used that exact word) she looks. Many, surprisingly to me at least, are...

Baltimore bridge struck by ship, collapses

Curious how the stern slides to port at the last minute. Prop walk from full reverse? If true this might have set it up for hitting the support. Just guessing here. Don’t know if container ships react like smaller sailboats. The truth will come out.
