36C Hatch Riser Arms

Wander

Hello All,
The hatch riser arms on my 1978 36C won't hold the hatches open any longer. I'm looking to repair (preferably) or replace the risers. Does anyone have information on who made the originals? Any source or recommendations on replacements?
Thanks,
Joe

Riser arms.

Joe and David, If memory still serves, our boats came with a telescoping riser with threaded metal tightener that had ears for your thumb and index finger to rotate. I know of what you speak, having experienced them not being able to be tightened enough as they got older. It looks like the only game in town is a series of several for hatches 10" X10" up to 20" X 20", made by Taylor as can be seen here. http://marine.eshopsale.com/taylor-hatch-riser-arms-for-10-x. If at all tempted to get this Perko hatch adjuster http://www.perko.com/catalog/category/deck_hardware/product/321/, head for the hills. I unfortunately have a pair on my boat and they are nothing but trouble to use. I wish I could offer a source but, alas the only quality ones I was aware of were made by ABI who closed their doors several years ago. As it happens, David and I have a pair of them, mine yet to be installed that we went into the purchase of, one large one for the main hatch and one smaller one for the hatch forward. These are fine quality bronze with bronze tightening knob, etc. Good luck Joe, Glyn Judson, E32 hull #55, Marina del Rey, CA.

Replacement riser.

Joe, You can always count on Marty to come through with the with the right stuff. Those Sea Dogs are about as close as I can recall the originals being. Am I remembering correctly? Glyn

Glyn and Martin,
Thank you for the great responses. I'll be working on this as soon as I have few other things off my list. (Fixing leaks, painting the transom, that kind of thing.) BTW, I'm hull #53 in Milwaukee, WI.

Cheers,
Joe
