It's been a year since a good friend EY.org member convinced us to sell the old beautiful chart-plotter so we could get one that would support AIS and radar displays. At the time, little did we know that it would take a real re-engineering of the pedestal guard and pedestal attachment to mount the new Simrad equipment.
Well, we finally got a new shifter cable installed in the slip on x-mas eve as part of the re-work and a few days later, on a mooring, we installed the new guard, Navpod, chartplotter and hooked up the radar. We are still waiting on an AIS part but are REALLY happy with the result. We can now sit down at the helm and see the foredeck over the Navpod and everything is nicely within reach and vision.
The broadband radar is awesome ! To think that it is a power miser too !
It will take a while before the multiple bruises (on both of us) will go away after all the painful crawling around and staying in torturous installation positions, but at this point they are badges of accomplishment
