Do these need to be tightened?

That's interesting. I am curious how those work; are they adjustable? How and where?

I have a 30+ and it has a split backstay that is attached to chain plates in the transom. No adjuster installed.

Single wire goes from masthead to low on the transom, there is a steel pully at tge transom, inside it splits into two sides, there is a 9 to 1 on each side, then go thru a cam clete just in front of tge opening into the cockpit. All rigging is under my boat in the rear area.
