ABI manual windlass info ?

Sven

Seglare
Do any of you have this windlass ? Am I right in assuming it is single speed ? At the only speed I've found it only raises the anchor by about 4" per stroke which is REALLY slow if you are just reeling in 6 out of the 7 parts of scope.

Do any of you happen to know where there might be a manual for it ? ABI is out of business :esad:

Thanks,

-Sven

ABI/RC Plath???

Sven, I took a quick check on the net and came up with this. http://www.rcplathcompany.com/products/marine_gallery.htm and this http://www.rcplathcompany.com/products/Plath Marine Catalog.pdf I wonder if you could get any helpful information from them? Look at the bottom two images and the other one on the left, four from the bottom. Then there's this http://www.sailnet.com/forums/gear-maintenance/8960-plath-windlass.html I don't know if any of this will help but it's better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Glyn

Thanks Glyn.

It is indeed a Plath 7B windlass, with a 800 lb rating if a response on the Cruisers Forum is correct (I believe it is). I certainly appreciate you digging up the info and pictures even if it probably was all that heavy solid and corroded bronze that spurred you on :egrin:

Brrrooonnnzzze!

Sven, You got that right, I was diagnosed the other day with bronze poisoning. Apparently the only cure is salt air exposure. Hmmm, for me or for the bronze??? I thought that you could possibly call that phone number to see if they have anything available either through the mail or an on line in the way of a manual. Glyn
