Loren, that is one heck of an interesting article! Those guys were on the same route as Sharon and I, but two days behind us. That area can change from non existant wind to darn near hurricane in a matter of moments.
Best,
Frank

All that is true of the iPad, is true of the iPod touch or the iPhone. The iPod touch lacks any GPS or 3G capability, though. However, the iNavX program on any of these devices can be used as a handheld wireless repeater for navigation data from the same vendor's Mac OS "big brother" programs MacENC (vector and raster charts) or GPSNavX (raster only).

The Navionics charts work fine with iNavX and MacENC/GPSNavX. This is cool because you can buy ENC charts for Mexico and Central America using the Navionics map sources, and then use them in the full-featured Mac OS applications and iNavX on the handhelds. Other cruising grounds outside the US are also available in ENC vector format for purchase through Navionics.

Android phones and devices have only the Navionics app available. There is nothing yet for Android that can navigate with free NOAA charts, or other standard ENC charts.
