Top speed of a 25+

Anyone have an idea of the top speed of a 25+ with stock/original sails is supposed to be? Just curious as to how bad I am at trimming the sails :egrin:

Thanks!

Well there are two ways to measure speed on your boat. Speed through the water would be best measured with a knot meter. Speed over ground can be measured with a GPS. I do not have a working knot meter on my boat. The top speed over ground I ever saw on my GPS on my E-27 was 9.1 knots and that was only for a fraction of a second on a broad reach surfing down a wave in about 24 knots of wind.

You can calculate the Hull Speed of your boat, "used to provide an approximate maximum efficient speed for a hull."

I think the basic formula is 1.34 times the square root of the length of the water line.

I have enjoyed messing around with this site Carl's Sail Calculator v3.53.

You can look up the specs on you boat or do comparisons with other boats.

According to Carl's Sail Calculator your Hull Speed for a E-25+ is 6.3

Thanks Jeff - both for the answer and the link to the site. I can see many hours being spent there. :egrin:

(and according to this I have some speed to find still, but I have to say I'm pretty happy given her performance so far).

Hull speed

My E-25+, the noble, Shaken not Stirred, had a hull speed according to the experts (including http://www.image-ination.com/sailcalc.html) of 6.3 kts. I saw more and I saw fewer but in the land of 8 foot tidal swings and sudden thermally induced thunder storms you will often find speeds way in excess of that figure. The lightning will also help you develop an active prayer life. The point is that that there are many many factors in producing your boat's speed. Good Luck. The 25+ is a great boat.
