Dropping rudder on E27

Brad Graves

Junior Member
My rudder was bent up while tow-boat ripped off cleats and the boat swung aft as it moved. Is there anything between the rudder and hull that I need to loosen or remove to drop the rudder? It is a 1978 sloop.

dropping a 35II rudder

FWIW

We have 1973 35II and dropped the rudder last fall while on land. It was way heavier than I thought it would be. If you have tiller steering as we do (and no auto pilot), once I removed the cap from the top of the rudder post in the cockpit There was only one bolt to remove and down it went. Note to self, next time have bigger friend to play catch with.

I have a E29, your rudder should just drop out once you have the top cap/tiller piece removed. Hopefully, the rudder stock is still straight enough to slide right out.
