Racing a 1967 E26-1

Hello everyone:
I'm looking for input on racing a 1967 E26-1 Crealock design. I am new to sailing and purchased this boat to learn on. I am fond of classics and now I'm getting attached to "Jolly Mon". My question is if the design sails well enough to consider racing the boat in the future?

Thanks Loren, I am going to E-mail Mr. Douglas this afternoon.

Racing Potential

New England phrf rates the 26-2 at 219 to 225, but I don't know the difference between that model and your -1. Most likely yours is slower. In theory, the phrf handicap causes all boats to finish in a dead heat, so if you can sail your boat faster than its rating, or the others are slower than theirs, you win. Regardless, work on technique and tactics, learn from those that finish up front, and you'll get faster and soon figure out what features you want in your next boat.
