Shower cord replacement

Frank Langer

1984 Ericson 30+, Nanaimo, BC
The hand held shower cord in our 1984 E30+ has developed a crack. It's the one that comes out the top of the tap in the head. None of the chandleries in our area carry a replacement, and there is no discernable manufacturer's name on it to order a replacement.
Does anyone know who made these, or where I might find a replacement?
Thanks,
Frank.

By the late 80's Ericson was using high end "Grohe" pull-out faucets. We have one in the galley and in the head.
A large specialty plumbing store here tells me that parts for all the "older" ones are available - some might have to be ordered.

FWIW, nowadays there seem to be two companies, this one and another brand called "HansGrohe"...
Not sure of the relationship, if any.

Best,

LB

Thanks, Loren. When you say large "specialty plumbing store", are you suggesting that I would be more likely to find it at a "Plumber's World" kind of store rather than a marine chandlery or RV store?

Hi Frank,
Here in Portland I found this brand at Geo. Morlan Plumbing. http://www.georgemorlan.com/

It is a large retail store, but they have *very* knowledgeable sales staff and do a lot of contractor business as well.
You certainly might find a good product specialist at Lowes or some other big-box store, but the odds are less in your favor.

IMHO, plumbing parts like this were originally sourced from the more corrosion-resistant and higher-$$ part of the plumbing fixtures suppliers, for the marine niche market builders. And even on the best day, a sailboat constructor was a very little part of the niche.

Thanks, Don. The one at boater's world looks like the right one--maybe I'll be lucky this time!
I appreciate your help on this!

Frank I am thinking of replacing my head faucet so that is funny that you would post this thread. I don't like the plastic faucet and it's on my to-do list.

Do you use your shower head? I have not had the chance to use mine but when I am cruising in Mexico I will probably use it. I have thought about installing an outlet in the port locker to take showers outside. Don't like the humidity in the boat.

If I do I will post pics.

Don, the faucet in our head is metal, as is the flex shower hose, with only the shower head being plastic. It all seems quite solid, so just replacing the shower hose would be a good option for me, if Boater's World has the right one (it has to be an exact fit to connect to the existing tap, or I'll need to replace the tap as well).

We have only had our boat since last year, and as we are still a year from retirement, our trips to the coast where the boat is moored have been somewhat limited so far. Once we are living at the coast, we will be using the boat more than a few weeks per year, including anchoring out. At that point the shower may be very useful, especially for my wife as she doesn't like swimming in the ocean; I may use it to rinse with fresh water after a good swim.

So we have not used the shower yet, but plan to do so, especially in fairly warm weather when we can ensure enough ventilation to dry the head, so we don't create too much humidity in the boat.

We sure do like the E30+!! :egrin:

Frank.

I just replaced my shower cord. You can find one in the West Marine catalog under plumbing/showers. The previous one was metal and the replacement I ordered was vinyl/plastic with metal fasteners. It went on great, same length and fit perfectly. It only cost $20.00 + shipping. You will see the replacement hoses with an * under the full shower head replacement. Cheaper and just as good
