E 38-200 Exhaust Elbow Temp and Aft Cabin

Hi:

I have a 1988 E 38-200. The engine runs at a steady 160 degrees (though I do have some steam). I noticed after a 1.5 hour run yesterday at 2100 rpm that the area in the aft cabin that nearly abuts the exhaust elbow was hot to touch. Is this normal? Is is possible to have a normal running temperature and a hot exhaust?

yep, ours gets pretty warm too. I use a $30 blower on one of the hoses connected to the vents in the aft rail. I have it connected to blow the hot air out. It really helps keep the aft cabin cooler and less "diesel-ish".

Also, there's a lot of discussion here somewhere about the warmth issues with the M40 Universal. We have the M50, which has less overheating issues, but still runs warm when pushed at all.
