Main Sheeting on E35

I'm very seriously considering the purchase of a 1977 E35. Can anyone explain in simple terms what would be involved in changing the main sheeting & traveler from in front of the helm to the cabin just forward of the companionway?

The deck in that part of the boat was not designed for that kind of load, I am not sure how it would hold out on a thirty year old boat without redoing the core; at the very least it would need extensive backing, which would be difficult due to the curve in the deck.

Also, I think a traveller forward of the hatch would be very hard to manage under sail.

My overall thought: if you want a boat with a large open cockpit for lazy days on the water, there are plenty of good designs for floating junk out there. If you want a boat to sail in circles around those boats (literally, on light wind days, it is great fun around $quarter million boats), buy the Ericson, but be willing to tolerate the small sacrifices to comfort that you find on a true sailor's boat.

Just my thought, mind.

Thanks Gareth

I appreciate your thoughts. I've pretty much decided that it will be much more trouble and expense than I want to spend. Like you said, why mess with a good design.
