Reefing the Main - Jack Line

I was wondereing just how the jack line works. Would someone be able to direct me to a diagram/additional information.

Have you searched the topic here? I have posted descriptions a few times over the last 2 years....If you look at them and still are not clear, I will try and post a sketch..
