Shaft Log

I'd appreciate some feed back on the replacement of the length of rubber hose on the shaft log. Mine is 1988 original and I'm wondering if it should be replaced.

The Stuffing Box Boogie

As you pull your boat out of the water for the Bellows and Packing
replacement....consider installing a Packless Sealing System (PSS)
Check out the PYI site (www.pyiinc.com) for the dripless stuffing box.
The installation and modifications are a well worth the investment to have
a more reliable stuffing box and dryer bilge :D
Your shaft may need to be shortened or replaced to accomodate the new
PSS. Next haulout I will be installing the PSS, new shaft and pilot bearing.

Good Luck on your Projects /) /)

Since the PSS seal replaces the former hose-and-shaft-log, no change in length is needed.
Perhaps someone is thinking of the process of adding a CV joint to the back of the coupler, and that *does* require a little shorter shaft... and that's why we have not done that on our boat (after much wishful measurement).

Also, here is the link to the photo of our PSS seal, on this site.

Thank you Loren...
Yes I was looking at including the R&D Flexible Coupling to my PSS Project.
The important thing with the PSS install is a clean shaft without burrs
and stuffing box wear to provide a new seal to the existing shaft.
